We abide by the COVID-19 safety regulations set by the city of Oakland. While we are not requiring masks indoors, please take a test the night before or morning of. If you are feeling unwell, please let us know as soon as possible, and do NOT attend the event for the safety and wellbeing of others. Take care of yourself and mask as you see fit. As we witness the ongoing and despairing genocide with the wars in Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan +, all while this country is undergoing another wild presidential election, let us gather to tend to our hearts and nervous systems through art in community.

No matter your experience or relationship to drawing, no matter your perspective and opinions, this is a space for you if you want to explore drawing as a medium of expression and catharsis in mindful, embodied community.

Facilitators

Chetna Mehta (she/they)

Chetna is a granddaughter of Indian and South African diasporas. She works and plays as an educating artist, alchemist, and facilitator collaborating with progressive organizations, coalitions, social movements, and changemakers.

They have leveraged drawing as a cathartic medium of decolonizing creativity, self-expression, inter-connection and healing. She’s facilitated drawing workshops for multigenerational, multi-geographical and multicultural groups, making drawing inclusive, accessible and fun for all experience levels.

JEss gutierrez (she/her)

Jess is an educator, artist/designer, arts curator, and community connector. Jess believes everyone should have access to create and express through art. She actively seeks ways that she can engage people in meaningful creative expression and build bridges across communities through active engagement, curation, workshops, and collaborations with other local creatives.

She emphasizes holding space and providing opportunities for BBIPOC artists, LGBTQ+ artists, and any other folks of marginalized identities that are historically under-resourced, underrepresented, and not welcome to be their full selves in institutionalized spaces.
